MENDOTA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL’S
LAUNCHES HIGH DEFINITION OPERATING SUITE
Mendota Community Hospital recently added high-definition visualization to its operating room suite through the purchase of a Stryker second-generation high definition video system. Mendota Community Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the area to provide this second-generation equipment which enables physicians to see better and maneuver instruments more easily during minimally invasive surgery.
MCH’s surgeons are using the new HD video system for endoscopic examinations (i.e. colonoscopy) as well as surgical procedures including gallbladder removal surgery, hernia repair, kidney removal, anti-reflux surgery and colon resections. Details of internal organs are incredibly enhanced beyond what could be seen with the previous generation of camera technology. The ability to perform surgeries in a shorter period of time will reduce the amount of anesthesia. Reducing patient time in the operating room also means shorter hospital stays.
“The high-definition video platform brings un unprecedented level of resolution and visual accuracy to the operating room,” explains Mary Lou Saylor, RN, and Manager of the Surgery Department at MCH. “The optical clarity and color reproduction are a definitive advantage to our surgical team.” It allows surgeons to operate using smaller incisions because the camera can project clearer, more detailed pictures onto a monitor.
The digital camera offers real time images that can be sent to any networked location for viewing. Pictures may be saved digitally or they may be made into prints.
With the addition of this fully integrated, high definition video system to the Surgery Department, Mendota Community Hospital reaffirms its commitment to providing the highest level of healthcare to our community.
