Pulmonology Clinic
Mendota Community Hospital will be offering area residents a Pulmonology Outpatient Clinic in the Community Health Services Department of the hospital.
Abdullah Altayeh, M.D. and Zaher Qassem,M. D. will alternate seeing patients, by appointment, on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at MCH You may schedule your appointment by calling 815-539-1422. A physician's referral is required. Dr. Altayeh Dr. Qassem Dr. Altayeh, who is board certified in Pulmonology and Internal Medicine, received his medical degree from St. Georges University of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed an internship and a residency in Internal Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University/Chicago Medical School, in North Chicago, IL. He also completed a Fellowship in Critical Care at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Dr. Qassem received his Medical Degree from Damascus University Medical School, Damascus, Syria and completed both an internship and a residency in Internal Medicine at Moorehouse School of Medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, GA. He also completed a Fellowship in Critical Care at Pittsburgh University, Pittsburgh, PA; a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Marshall University, Huntington Beach, West Virginia and a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. Both Dr. Altayeh and Dr. Qassem are affiliated with Rockford Memorial Hospital. As pulmonologists they specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases, conditions and disorders of the lungs and cardiopulmonary system. The cardiopulmonary system consists of the heart, lungs, blood vessels and all organs that work together to help a person breathe, in order to take in oxygen, and oxygenate the blood. Pulmonologists can help individuals who suffer from bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), masses, cancer, or other chronic conditions. They also focus on hereditary diseases affecting the lungs (such as cystic fibrosis and alpha1- antitrypsin deficiency), exposures to toxins (tobacco smoke, asbestos, or exhaust fumes), exposures to infectious agents (certain types of birds) and autoimmune allergies that might predispose someone to certain conditions (such as pulmonary fibrosis or pulmonary hypertension). Pulmonogists use laboratory testing, Spirometry (a machine that measures lung volumes in times), chest x-rays, CT scanning, and Bronchoscopy as diagnostic tools to help them determine their diagnosis and treatment for individual patients.
