It is hard to believe that a whole year has passed since I last wrote about Heart Month. During that time 935,000 people have had a heart attack. According to the American Heart Association there has been a 30.8% drop in the cardiovascular death rate since 2001. The lower death rate is attributed to medical advances AND lifestyle changes that are lowering heart attack risk. As a side note the death rate related to high blood pressure has increased by 13.2%. 85.6 million people in the U.S. have cardiovascular disease and 32.6% have high blood pressure.

Mendota Community Hospital Board Selects New Name

December 10, 2014 Mendota, IL – Last week the Board of Directors for Mendota Community Hospital unanimously agreed that the new name for the hospital should be OSF Saint Paul Medical Center. The name will become effective when Mendota Community Hospital officially joins OSF Healthcare System sometime in the spring of 2015 when a blessing and dedication ceremony will take place.
