Dr. Allen Van joins MCH Orthopaedics

Mendota Community Hospital is pleased to welcome, Allen Van, M.D., Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. Dr. Van comes to MCH with over 20 years of experience. He attended medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his Orthopaedic Residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center. Dr. Van went on to do an extended one year fellowship in spine surgery with some of the country’s best surgeons to gain more insight into taking care of patients with spinal issues.

Mendota Community Hospital's Emergency Department Goes Electronic

On September 17th, 2013 the Emergency Department at Mendota Community Hospital went “live” with Meditech (Medical Information Technology, Inc). This software based system is from Massachusetts. Meditech is a medical information system that is installed in healthcare facilities throughout the world. MCH began implementing Meditech’s healthcare information system back in 1997. We began integrating modules into individual departments with the latest being the Emergency Department Management (EDM) module. EDM started with the nursing documentation go-live in February of 2013 and the physician documentation with physician order entry on September 17th, 2013.

Try Not To Fry By Tina Fitzgerald BSN RN CDE Summer is VERY near and it is time to think about the sun and your skin. Most people think when someone has a tan they look and feel healthier. Not necessarily so. Excess sun exposure can cause premature aging of the skin and skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. It accounts for nearly half of all cancers. There are a number of types of skin cancer. Non-melanoma skin cancer has more than 2,000,000 cases diagnosed each year. The most serious type, melanoma, has accounted for about 68,130 cases of skin cancer in 2010 according to the American Cancer Society.
