BICYCLE SAFETY By Tina Fitzgerald BSN RN CDE “Get a bicycle. You will not regret it if you live.” This is a quote from Mark Twain. In this day and age there have been a lot of improvements made on the bicycle that greatly improve the safety aspects of bicycle riding. However there are a number of things you can do to “improve your odds”. Bicycling is not just for kids. I just attended the 40th Anniversary of the St. Charles Bicycle Club, now known as the Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club, and adult cycling is still going strong. Bicycling is a fun way to stay fit at any age and the safety rules are the same for everyone. Here is a list of some of the most important ones:

Let’s start with the statistics of diabetes in the United States as they were calculated in the latest study in 2011 and released by the Center for Disease Control: Diagnosed with diabetes: 25.8 million Undiagnosed diabetes: 7 million Pre-diabetes: 79 million 35% of those over 20 years of age have pre-diabetes 50% of those over 65 years of age have pre-diabetes
