March is National Nutrition Month! What started as a weeklong event in 1973, became a month long celebration in 1980 in response to growing public interest in nutrition. This year the theme is “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle”.

Heart Disease 2015

It is hard to believe that a whole year has passed since I last wrote about Heart Month. During that time 935,000 people have had a heart attack. According to the American Heart Association there has been a 30.8% drop in the cardiovascular death rate since 2001. The lower death rate is attributed to medical advances AND lifestyle changes that are lowering heart attack risk. As a side note the death rate related to high blood pressure has increased by 13.2%. 85.6 million people in the U.S. have cardiovascular disease and 32.6% have high blood pressure.
